100 Fun Chinese Class

100 FUN Chinese Class is organized by social enterprise WEDO GLOBAL. The Programme provides free Chinese class to non-Chinese primary 4 to 6 and secondary school students so that they can enhance their interest in Chinese and their ability to read, write, listen, speak in a Cantonese-speaking environment, also assist them with their pre-study and revision regarding the Chinese they have learned in school.

Moreover, we will use Chinese typing to assist secondary school students to learn Chinese through understanding Chinese characters and enhancing their memory of Chinese characters so that they can learn to type as well, which can help them to equip for future career too. The teaching contents will be focused on academic Chinese at school and daily life Chinese.

「中文滿FUN班」特點：

一) 多方面學習支援：在全廣東話的學習環境下，透過互動教學、協助學生預習及複習中文。

二) 互動及活動教學：透過導師預備的各種學習活動及工具，與學生互動，令他們更投入並有效地學習中文。學生同時能有更多時間接觸中文，增強中文基礎。

三) 多元化課程內容：導師主要教授與日常生活有關的中文內容，學習內容能與學生生活更加扣連，息息相關，讓他們更投入學習，並能有效地應用所學的中文。此外，我們也可配合學校中文課程，制定預習及複習內容，使學生能更加熟習，從而提升校內中文成績。

四) 教授中文輸入法：透過教導學生如何打字，讓他們認識中文筆劃，並加強對中文字型的記憶。 (只限中學生)

五) 導師組合：華裔及非華裔導師互相配合教學，各自發揮所長，為學生帶來更全面的中文教學。

日期：2019年12月至2020年6月 (每間學校每星期1-2節，每節1-2小時，視乎學校情況而定)

時間：課後活動時間 (待定)

對象：非華裔高小及中學生

地點：學校 (到校支援) (確實地點需視乎學校地點而定)

學生人數：每班最多20人

導師人數：每班2位 (華裔及非華裔導師各一位)

導師津貼：HK$ 200 一節

- 正就讀大專院校或已從大專院校畢業者優先

Being a tutor made me feel that it is a privilege to be able to help and teach non-Chinese students to learn the language as I’ve realized that students who were newly arrivals to Hong Kong couldn’t understand even the basics, and some students could slightly speak but couldn’t write or understand the meanings.

Therefore, I started by using basic, simple and relatable topics to help them understand easier, first teaching vocabularies and the meanings, then asking them to start making sentences using the words and then to speak them out, finally having them practice with me the writing of the words. Through these methods, it has helped them learn and each student has progressed in the way of speaking and writing it properly.

I think the Chinese classes are necessary and very helpful for non-Chinese students to learn Chinese more besides their compulsory school lessons as they get to learn in a much flexible environment with no limitations and stressful exercises which makes them feel comfortable and to be interested in learning Chinese.

Interactive drama workshop: The Curryland

Introduction:

This interactive drama workshop is mainly performed by South Asians, who grew up in Hong Kong. Participants can understand more about the lives and stories of ethnic minorities, especially about how they struggle and overcome difficulties when growing up in Hong Kong. Do you know how they learn Chinese? Do you know what kind of food they like to eat and how to wear a hijab? You can find out the answers at the workshop, let's go!

Time: 2 hours

Human library session with the South Asian performers

'In the future, I want to continue sharing my culture with Hongkongers. Sometimes, people here think ethnic minorities give Hong Kong a bad image, but I really want to show that their thinking isn't correct. Ethnic minorities can also be successful, they don't need to rely on welfare. Although some ethnic minorities have a high level of education, they can't find a job because of the language barrier.'
