Multicultural Education Program | Enhancing the Cultural Intelligence of Ethnically Diverse Students | Cultivating Future Cross-Cultural Leaders

To cultivate more future leaders with cross-cultural perspectives, WEDO GLOBAL has collaborated with Hong Kong Taoist Association Wun Tsuen School, Man Kiu Association Primary School and Tai Kok Tsui Catholic Primary School to implement a multicultural education program. This initiative provides Chinese and non-Chinese students with diverse cultural learning experiences to enhance their motivation and Cultural Intelligence (CQ). The learning experience includes "MeowMeow is missing!" Multicultural Storytelling Workshop, cultural art workshop and outdoor learning experiences, allowing students to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures, broaden their horizons and develop empathy.

"MeowMeow is missing!" Multicultural Storytelling Workshop|An immersive experience to spark curiosity

"MeowMeow is Missing!" Multicultural Storytelling Workshop is designed by the WEDO GLOBAL team, combining elements of picture books, drama, and interactive sharing, and led by cultural ambassadors from diverse cultural backgrounds. The workshop covered the multicultural themes and illustrations of the picture books, catering to the multisensory learning needs of students. This immersive experience allowed both teachers and students to appreciate the multicultural community of Yau Ma Tei while understanding the spirit of neighbourhood mutual support and the art of making friends. As the story unfolded, students had the opportunity to engage with Cultural Ambassadors, listen to their stories of growing up, and learn about their languages and cultures. This interaction enhanced students' interest and curiosity about different cultures and encouraged them to explore their surrounding community.

" I like the drama part because it helps me learn more about how to greet people." P5 student

"I think the students actively answered the questions. Guiding students to understand diverse cultures through an interesting story is appealing, allowing them to think and respond. It attracted the students to watch, think and respond." Miss Yip from Man Kiu Association Primary School

In addition to enjoying the story, the Cultural Ambassadors guided students to reflect based on different scenarios. Through observation, analysis and discussions with other students, they shared their thoughts or proposed solutions. Throughout the process, students were able to develop confidence and empathy, enhance their cultural sensitivity, and further promote interaction and collaboration among students from different cultural backgrounds.

"I think they are quite actively involved. Through this story or sharing from Cultural Ambassadors, they understand the importance of inclusion and multiculture." Miss. Chen from Hong Kong Taoist Association Wun Tsuen School

Cultural Art Workshop|Enhancing Cultural Knowledge and Promoting Inclusivity

The cultural art workshop combined learning words, art and sharing elements, and was tailored to meet the diverse learning needs of both Chinese and non-Chinese students. Through this workshop, students can learn about Arabic or Chinese, as well as the cultural meaning of blessings expressions. Then they can express their creativity by designing and creating multicultural bookmarks, one as a souvenir for themselves and the other to be gifted to community members.

"They can understand traditional Chinese culture, and it is very meaningful for students to give the bookmarks to the elderly." Miss Chu from Hong Kong Taoist Association Wun Tsuen School

"I enjoyed learning to write Arabic because it's very interesting." P2 student

In the workshop, students were able to connect with the community through art and express their care and inclusivity towards it. After completing their creations, they had the opportunity to share their creative ideas and appreciate other classmates' work. By learning different languages and participating in art creation, students have deepened their understanding and interest in multiculture, while also cultivating values such as respect and compassion,  thereby building an inclusive learning environment.

"The workshop allowed students to learn another language and let them realize that they actually have opportunities to encounter Arabic in their daily lives." Mr. Law from Tai Kok Tsui Catholic Primary School

Outdoor learning experience|Hands-On experience and stepping into the community

WEDO GLOBAL organized various outdoor learning experiences to provide students with first-hand exposure to different cultures and learning opportunities in the community. We were delighted to lead a group of students from diverse cultural backgrounds to visit a local community center, where they presented multicultural art bookmarks they had created to the elderly in the community. Through this experience, students were able to communicate with the elderly, gaining a deeper understanding of each other and challenging stereotypes. This experience helped students learn to respect and care for others, fostering integration and understanding among different members of the community.

"I like making the bookmarks because we give them to the elderly, and to our family or friends." P5 student

"I can give the bookmarks we made to the elders, which makes them happy, so I am also very happy." P5 student

We also hope to promote more parent-child cultural experiences, allowing both Chinese and non-Chinese parents to accompany their children to experience, learn, and grow. We previously led a workshop that combined Chinese cultural experiences with artistic creation, enabling everyone to enhance their understanding and appreciation of different cultures while enjoying a wonderful parent-child time.
