Henna is a beautiful art form renowned in India, Pakistan, Africa, the Middle East, and many other regions. Traditionally, women apply henna during festivals and special occasions such as weddings and Eid. In 2024, it was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. Today in Hong Kong, it’s increasingly common to see people showcasing exquisite floral henna designs on their hands.

"The part that impressed me the most is that they explained the background story of henna to know more about the culture. And we are allowed to create our own patterns." Workshop participant

We were delighted to organize Henna DIY Workshops to introduce this unique art form to VTC Youth College students. Guided by our Cultural Ambassadors, participants explored the origins, meanings, and techniques behind henna. Before applying the Henna paste, participants practiced various drawing skills and learned about traditional patterns. Through this process, they slowed down, focused on the experience, and expressed creativity by designing henna that reflected their unique styles.

"I am very satisfied with this activity because experiencing henna painting on my own hands allowed me to gain a concrete understanding of the culture. It also made me reflect that in a diverse society, different cultures are worth learning and appreciate, and there should not be any discrimination." Workshop participant

In addition, our Cultural Ambassadors shared personal stories of their lives in Hong Kong. This relaxing and creative learning experience deepened participants’ appreciation of diversity and inclusion, fostering cultural respect and connection across the campus.
