Walking with SEN Students | Learn and Explore Hong Kong's Multiculturalism

WEDO GLOBAL collaborated with Hong Chi Morninghill School, Tsui Lam to learn and explore Hong Kong's multiculturalism with students who have special education needs. Before the activity, the WEDO GLOBAL team worked closely with the school teachers to customize the activity content to meet the specific needs and abilities of the students. In order to allow students to fully participate, this learning experience was divided into two groups. The primary school students took part in the "Wan Chai Community Tour with Ethnic Minority“ to learn about Sikh culture, while the secondary school students participated in the "Tsim Sha Tsui Community Tour with Ethnic Minority“ to learn about Islamic culture and explore Chungking Mansions.

Wan Chai Community Tour with Ethnic Minority | Learn about Sikh culture

Under the guidance of WEDO GLOBAL Cultural Ambassadors, teachers and students visited the Sikh temple. They visited various facilities and tried new experiences, including wearing the headscarf and trying Indian-style vegetarian food. These experiences inspired students and made them feel excited, encouraging them to actively explore the new culture they encountered with respect and an open mind. Then, the Cultural Ambassadors introduced Sikh culture and the connection between Sikhs and Hong Kong. The students listened attentively and answered questions enthusiastically, showing their strong interest. Through this community learning experience, students not only have broadened their horizons and gained a deeper understanding of the Sikh community in Hong Kong, but also learned to respect different cultures and cultivate empathy.

"Through listening to sharings, wearing the headscarf, and trying special foods, students learned to respect each other and understand different cultures." School teacher

Tsim Sha Tsui Community Tour with Ethnic Minority | Explore Islamic Culture

During the Tsim Sha Tsui Community Tour with Ethnic Minority, most students visited the Kowloon Mosque and Chungking Mansions for the first time. Although they initially felt a bit unfamiliar with the surroundings, they were excited to participate in the experience. When they were visiting the mosque, the facilities and decorations inside the mosque aroused the curiosity and interest of the students. Guided by the Cultural Ambassador's engaging introductions, they explored every corner of the mosque, listening attentively and actively raising their hands to ask questions.  Through this visit, students learned more about Islamic culture, the dietary habits and the lives of Muslims in Hong Kong.

"I gained a better understanding of the living conditions of various ethnic groups." Participant

Chungking Mansions | Experiencing Multicultures

After visiting the Kowloon Mosque, the Cultural Ambassadors led the teachers and students to different cultural shops in Chungking Mansions, including Islamic store, South Indian restaurant, and Indian grocery shop. Students had the opportunity to try Masala tea (a beverage mixed with spices like cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom) and South Indian snacks, providing them with a multi-sensory experience. Besides tasting delicious foods, the students interacted with Cultural Ambassadors and community members from diverse cultural backgrounds, listening to their stories and opening a dialogue. This allowed them to gain deeper insights into the lives and challenges faced by ethnic minorities in Hong Kong, fostering a more open and inclusive mindset towards Multicultural and learning to understand and accept people from different backgrounds with empathy.

"Thank you for your dedication. The students were very satisfied and gained a lot, especially from the tour and the interaction between the Cultural Ambassadors and students, which was very enlightening for them."  School Teacher
