- Experiential Learning Workshop: Enhancing Values Education through “Social Inclusion of Ethnic Minorities” Experiential Activities
According to the 2021 Population Census, there has been a significant increase of 37.3% in the number of Ethnic Minorities living in Hong Kong over the past ten years. The trend of this pattern has shown that these numbers will continue to increase in the upcoming years. This increasing trend will cause more and more schools in Hong Kong to enrol students of diverse backgrounds, making it crucial for our teachers to be equipped with knowledge, awareness, and understanding of these diverse groups of students to make the school environment much more inclusive for all students. WEDO GLOBAL has collaborated with the Education Bureau to conduct an experiential learning workshop and sharing for teachers from over 25 Secondary Schools in Hong Kong. This workshop was designed to help teachers gain a deeper understanding of how they can implement and provide inclusive activities for their students; by engaging in a dialogue with the Cultural Ambassadors; gaining more insight into the growth and learning experiences of and challenges faced by ethnic minority Cultural Ambassadors. Dialogue session | Answering curiosity In the Dialogue session, teachers were separated into groups to engage with the ethnic minority Cultural Ambassadors. The session was interactive and engaged about the different questions asked by the teachers. During the session, the teachers understood more about ethnic minorities from different aspects, for example, the language challenges faced by ethnic minorities due to various reasons, including the environment in school and at home which contribute to their difficulties in learning Chinese. We also discovered the teachers' reasons for joining this Workshop, which touched us with the care and passion these teachers had for their students. We appreciated their eagerness and willingness to understand more about how they can provide a better school environment; better learning environment; and more diverse opportunities for their students to grow. “This activity allows me to learn from different aspects and understand the needs of non-Chinese speaking students”-Ms. Law Cultural Workshop | Experiencing Arabic Calligraphy We introduced our educational activities including cultural workshops and tours to teachers, which they can bring to their students, regardless of whether they have Chinese or non-Chinese students. The teachers also had a taste of our Arabic Calligraphy Workshop, which they enjoyed learning and painting. Their artworks were creative and unique. One of the teachers had asked our Cultural Ambassador how to write the following in Urdu for his Pakistani students. “Brothers, I love you. Teacher” It showed not only the care he had for his students but also the closeness he had maintained with them, which as students, is genuinely appreciated. “What impressed me most was the Arabic calligraphy. I felt the difficulty of ethnic minorities learning Chinese, and I also realised and experienced the beauty of mutual appreciation.” - Mr. Fung Overall, the workshop provided a fun, interactive, and welcoming environment for teachers to enhance their cultural knowledge, share their experiences and concerns; and provide ideas on how to implement multicultural elements and activities for their students, ultimately contributing to a more harmonious, diverse and inclusive school environment. “This activity deepens my understanding about the culture of EM & inspiration for collaboration” -Mr. Luk #WEDOGLOBAL #愛同行 #共融 #EDB #ExperientialLearning #Diversity #Inclusion #Education #ValuesEducation #InclusiveEducation #Culture #Teacher #TeacherSharing #CulturalSharing #Dialogue #ArabicCalligraphy #Workshop

- Corporate-SE Collaboration | Team Building and Volunteer Training and Award Ceremony
WEDO GLOBAL has collaborated multiple times with the WSP Volunteer Team, to organize various outreach education activities for primary and secondary ethnically diverse students, to enhance community participation and development opportunities of ethnic minorities. This year marks our third year partnering with WSP to organize the "Volunteer Training and Award Ceremony”, to recognise the team's active participation in various volunteer activities in the past year. Through diverse team-building activities, we aim to foster teamwork among volunteers, enhance their interest in multiculturalism and sustainable development, and encourage them to continue serving different groups within the community, thereby promoting social diversity, development, and inclusion. Team Building | United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) This year's team building training focused on "sustainable development." The volunteer team was divided into groups to conduct a series of missions and games to foster teamwork among the volunteer team members, enhancing communication skills, leadership skills and problem-solving skills etc. Through these activities, team members were able to discover their own strengths and establish a sense of empathy. This, in turn, enables them to identify roles and opportunities within the team where they can contribute effectively, both in their professional work and volunteer services. The SDGs are 17 goals established by the United Nations, aimed at collectively addressing major global issues. WEDO GLOBAL believes that everyone can contribute to achieving these goals. Through our activities, we guided volunteers to get to know and understand the importance of the SDGs. We discussed how to apply these goals to volunteer services and daily life through practical actions, in order to achieve sustainable development. Personal Development|Health and Well-Being In addition to focusing on the effectiveness of volunteer services, we also pay attention to the health and well-being of our volunteer team members. Therefore, we incorporate elements of body, mind, and spirit into our activities, allowing volunteers to learn how to maintain focus and inner calm, achieve balance in work, life, and volunteer service, and maintain healthy physical and mental development. Corporate-enterprise collaboration | Building a Diverse Community In addition to commending volunteers for their efforts and support, the award ceremony also reviewed the volunteer activities of the past year. Through volunteer sharing, it showcased how corporate employees brought positive impacts to the community, emphasizing the importance of corporate social responsibility and the collaborative effects of business collaboration, to build more diverse and inclusive communities together. #WEDOGLOBAL #愛同行 #WSP #VolunteerTraining #TeamBuilding #AwardCeremony #SDGs #SustainableDevelopment #Collaboration #Inclusion #義工培訓 #團隊建設 #永續發展目標 #可持續發展 #商企協作 #共融
- Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Education Forum: Uprooting unconscious bias, supporting learner diversity
In order to raise awareness and attention of Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Education among schools and community partners, the social enterprise WEDO GLOBAL, in collaboration with the Equal Opportunity Commission and Inspiring Girls Hong Kong, co-organized the D&I Education Forum to facilitate mutual learning, dialogues, and collaboration, with the collective goal of creating a more inclusive society. The forum started with an inspiring panel discussion featuring professionals from various sectors, including (from left in the picture) Ms. Eva WONG, Co-founder of WEDO GLOBAL, Dr. Jan GUBE, Assistant Professor at the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, EdUHK, Dr. Alice YUK, BBS, JP, CEO of Ebenezer School & Home for the Visually Impaired and Mr. Jonathan LY, Board Member of Inspiring Girls Hong Kong. They shared their valuable insights and past experiences in the fields of education, social welfare, and business, focusing on eliminating unconscious biases and promoting inclusivity. Dare to Dream: Trusting students is key To enhance the abilities of diverse students, their mindset plays a crucial role. Unconscious biases and misunderstandings present in society have resulted in difficulties in their education and employment, limiting their opportunities to showcase their talents. This leads to self-doubt and a sense of defeat, hindering them from dreaming big. To overcome these obstacles, Dr. Yuk advises parents and teachers “to trust and have higher expectations for students with diverse learning needs since discouragement from their families can further erode their confidence, making it harder for them to pursue their dreams.” Ms. Wong stressed the importance of “establishing an environment that is conducive to diverse education, gradually breaking down personal, familial, and societal limitations, to support the continuous development of students' diverse learning needs.” There are multiple ways to establish a diverse and inclusive educational framework. Dr. Gube introduced the “collaborative education approach”, where schools can collaborate with non-governmental organizations or social enterprises to provide students first-hand experiences of different cultures. This helps cultivate empathy and enhance cultural intelligence among students. Additionally, Mr. Ly suggested “inviting professionals from various fields to share their personal experiences with students, providing valuable insights and showcase the diverse possibilities for future careers.” Cultivating future multicultural leaders The discussion was followed by the amazing sharing of their diversity and inclusion education strategies from three schools —— Caritas Wu Cheng-chung Secondary School, TWGHs Kap Yan Directors’ College, and St. Teresa Secondary School. Principal Mr. Au and Vice Principal Mr. Lo from Caritas Wu Cheng-Chung Secondary School shared their tactics of nurturing a global mindset through a “WE-school” approach. Through experiential learning activities such as sports and multicultural events, they bring together students from diverse ethnic backgrounds to build an inclusive school environment. Vice Principal Mr. Lo also discussed the collaboration with WEDO GLOBAL in implementing the “Multicultural and Global-minded Curriculum” educational programme, emphasizing the development of students' international perspectives and growth mindset, with the long-term goal of building an inclusive society. Principal Yau from TWGHs Kap Yan Directors’ College emphasized the importance of exposing students to multiculturalism from a young age and values education. Through a series of cross-curricular experiential learning activities organized in collaboration with WEDO GLOBAL, including community tour and cultural arts workshop etc, students are provided with opportunities to interact with people from different cultural backgrounds, thereby enhancing their cultural knowledge and sensitivity. The majority of students find these activities inspiring as they gain understanding of the significance of inclusivity. Together, we strive for “Opportunity for All” We would like to express our gratitude to representatives from over 60 schools and community partners who participated in the “Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Education Forum”. Together, we explored ways to empower all students, regardless of their cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, or abilities, to create a positive impact in this diverse and interconnected world. We hope that this forum has brought new inspiration and will advance equality and diversity in education, nurturing talents from diverse backgrounds. #WEDOGLOBAL #EOC #InspiringGirls #DIEducation #Diversity #Inclusion #Education #Forum #Unconsciousbias #InclusiveEducation #Culture #CareerPath #Youth #Leader #CWCC #TWGHsKapYanDirectorsCollege #StTeresaSecondarySchool
- Cross-Curricular Learning Experience: Multicultural x Art x Community
WEDO GLOBAL collaborated with the TWGHs Kap Yan Directors' College to design a learning experience, covering History, Tourism, and Other Learning Experiences, training student leaders, and providing multicultural experiential activities, to cultivate students’ cultural sensitivity and enrich their horizon on multiculturalism. Multicultural Community Exploration With the guidance and explanation of the Cultural Ambassadors, participants had the opportunity to explore the Mosque and Sikh Temple in Wan Chai. Through first-hand observation and understanding of different religions and cultures, participants were able to enhance their understanding of different cultures and were able to communicate with community members about their lifestyle and values, understanding the importance of multiculturalism. “This activity allowed me to understand different cultures, change previous stereotypes, respect different cultures and understand the diversity of cultures.” Art Creation In the cultural workshop, participants learned Arabic words and grasped the techniques of Arabic calligraphy. Some participants included different values, including messages of peace, hope, and environmental protection. Cross-cultural creation does not only encourage participants to think and express their feelings, but while showcasing and sharing their artwork, they can also inspire other students to reflect on different social issues. "What impressed me most was the designing and painting of Arabic words and backgrounds. I can learn about other cultures from this activity, which is even more interesting." Sharing Session This multicultural experience integrated art creation and community exploration, with students participating in different experiences and then divided into smaller groups, sharing their observations, learnings, experiences, and feelings. Apart from gaining new knowledge, the sharing session can also cultivate students’ ability to share different cultures and further understand the community. "I have not been exposed to many different things, and this activity will make me more courageous to experience new things." This Cross-Curricular Learning Experience enhanced students’ cross-cultural communication ability, further deepening their understanding of different cultures and respect. By engaging participants in multicultural activities, we can enhance students’ cultural sensitivity, curiosity toward the world, and spirit of exploration. - Promoting Multicultural Workspaces: Building Cross-Cultural Collaborative Teams
In the face of a globalized business environment, clients or colleagues come from diverse cultural backgrounds, teams need to possess strong cross-cultural communication and collaboration skills to facilitate projects. Since the early 2000s, organizational psychologists have mentioned the term "Cultural Intelligence (CQ)" in government agencies, workplaces, educational institutions, and academic research. Individuals with high CQ are capable of recognizing their own cultural differences, able to be acquainted with and understand others, working together to achieve desired results. Today, Silicon Valley companies and the United States as a whole actively utilize this concept. According to the research by global advisory and advocacy firm APCO, 45% of interviewed Chinese business leaders believe that the biggest challenge in collaborating with Western companies or acquiring Western businesses is cultural differences. Hence, more Chinese companies are recognizing the importance of hiring talents with high CQ, who can effectively work in diverse cultural environments. WEDO GLOBAL is honored to conduct a cultural sensitivity training for the team at CACEIS Hong Kong Trust Company Limited, enhancing their cultural sensitivity and cross-cultural communication abilities. This can foster a more inclusive, understanding, and respectful work environment that embraces different cultures. The training includes interactive sharing sessions, where cultural ambassadors with diverse ethnic backgrounds introduce themselves and share their personal experiences, guiding participants in understanding how unconscious bias and stereotypes can lead to discriminatory behaviors, bringing the importance of developing cultural awareness for both individuals and teams. By incorporating activities that embrace multicultural elements, participants can gain a better understanding and respect for different cultural values and customs. This not only enhances their cultural knowledge but also equips them with non-verbal and effective cross-cultural communication skills, thereby strengthening their collaboration capabilities with colleagues and clients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Then, through engaging in case studies and simulated scenarios, team members have the opportunity to experience challenges that may arise in different cultural contexts. They can reflect on and solve these challenges, thereby enhancing their cross-cultural problem-solving and conflict management skills. The objective of this cultural sensitivity training is to enable the company team to better understand and appreciate team members from different cultural backgrounds, to learn respecting and embracing different cultural perspectives, enhance cross-cultural communication skills, and integrate these skills into daily work and team collaboration, ultimately building a strong cross-cultural collaborative team and promoting multicultural workspaces. #WEDOGLOBAL #CACEIS #Multicultural #CulturalDiversity #Diversity #DEI #Inclusion #TeamTraining #Training #CulturalSensitivity #InclusiveWorkplace #CQ #CulturalIntelligence
- An Insightful Exploration: Wan Chai Community Tour with Ethnic Minority
WEDO GLOBAL is delighted to cooperate with Kerry Engagement to organize the "Wan Chai Community Tour with Ethnic Minority" for Hong Kong Kerry Group colleagues. Together, the participants can explore the Sikh Temple in Wan Chai, experience the multiculturalism of Hong Kong, and create wonderful memories. Through on-site exploration and various cultural experiences, participants could gain a deeper understanding of the architecture, the culture, and the cuisine of Sikhism. They could also learn more about the Sikh community from the sharing of Cultural Ambassadors. Hence, to facilitate cross-cultural communication, and contribute to the establishment of a diverse and inclusive community. “Well structured, good balance of information, theory, and experience about the essence of Sikhism.” The Cultural Ambassadors initiated the session by introducing the origin and beliefs of Sikhism. They proceeded to demonstrate the method of wearing a turban while explaining the underlying reasons behind this practice. These efforts aimed to establish a basic understanding of Sikh culture among the participants. Then, the Cultural Ambassadors shared the history of Sikhism specifically in the context of Hong Kong. Through their sharing, participants gained a deeper insight into the Sikh community in Hong Kong, their life in Hong Kong, and their culture. For a more immersive experience, the Cultural Ambassadors guided the participants into the prayer hall, allowing them to experience the solemn atmosphere during worship. “It has given me a deeper understanding of the religion that I didn't know about before!” After the visit, the participants proceeded to the Langar Hall to savor Indian vegetarian cuisine. The Langar Hall is operated by volunteers and provides free meals to the public, reflecting their spirit of generosity. The Cultural Ambassadors also explained the belief behind the Langar Hall in Sikh culture, for example, a painting on the wall depicted the emperor and ordinary people sitting together on the floor in Langar Hall, symbolizing the belief in equal treatment regardless of race, gender, or social status. “The part that impressed me the most is the inclusive warm friendly nature of all encountered” Through the explanations by Cultural Ambassadors and interactive sessions like hands-on visits, and tasting sessions, people from different backgrounds can experience Sikh culture, to reduce biases caused by a lack of understanding, and bring the belief of diversity and inclusivity into the workplace and family, fostering a harmonious community. #WEDOGLOBAL #Multicultural #CulturalTour #SikhTemple #Community #EthnicMinorites #Respect #CulturalDiversity #WorkplaceTraining #Diversity #Inclusion #CulturalSensitivity #InclusiveWorkplace

- Bringing Diversity & Inclusion into the Workplace
Social enterprise WEDO GLOBAL is grateful to curate a Diversity workshop for the staff of the Bank of Singapore Limited (Hong Kong Branch). Throughout the workshop, our Cultural Ambassadors have shared the latest information on the ethnic minority population in Hong Kong, cultural knowledge of ethnic minorities and staff also learnt how they can support ethnic minorities in Hong Kong to cultivate a diverse and inclusive society. To provide a fun yet informative session, we included cultural facts into the south asian games in order to allow the staff to gain more cultural knowledge and try writing words in different languages. The staff were highly engaged throughout the games and experienced good team-building opportunities. The staff also wrote the greetings they learnt and blessings in greeting cards which were passed to the South Asian Primary school students. We then helped to distribute gifts and the greeting cards in Yuen Long and Kam Tin to 100 South Asian families. “The Diversity workshop is interactive and meaningful. Our colleagues also sent their greetings and gifts to 100 South Asian families to celebrate a heartwarming holiday. Understanding and respecting different cultures is very important to our bank’s commitments in building a comprehensive and genuine culture of diversity and inclusion both in the workplace and beyond.” said Ms. Wong, a staff of the Bank of Singapore. - Together, we embrace inclusion and diversity
Nurturing the next generation of engineering leaders To celebrate the importance of Diversity and Inclusion, social enterprise WEDO GLOBAL, in collaboration with WSP in Asia, co-organized different activities during the I&D Month to facilitate learning, dialogues, and exchange between staff members, youths, and community members to create a more harmonious society together. Future-ready: A company visit and career talk for youths from diverse backgrounds A group of secondary school students from 9 countries had the opportunity to enhance their understanding of the Design, Engineering, Environment & Construction consulting industry during the company visit and career talk at the WSP Hong Kong office. Besides introducing the industry, students gained knowledge and experience in Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology through VR experience. The exchange session with young engineers from different areas also allows the students to understand the job roles and career developments so that students can better plan for their future studies. Afterwards, students also had an office tour to understand the working environment and the various parts of the company. “We believe that by exposing the young minds to the real world of engineering and sharing our experiences from the perspectives of both young engineers and senior management, they can get inspired to pursue engineering careers to bring positive impact to the community. Being the change you want to see!” Cultural Immersion: Henna experience Besides educating and nurturing youths, staff members’ cultural sensitivity and wellness are crucial for creating a diverse and inclusive work environment. We organized a Henna experience session for staff members at WSP in Asia to have a first-hand cultural experience at the office. They were very interested and eager to draw Henna. Traditionally, Henna is used in celebration of special occasions such as weddings and festivals in the joyous gathering of people. It can be drawn on the skin, such as hands or feet. Our Cultural Ambassadors felt a sense of accomplishment when they saw the smiles of the staff members and felt their satisfaction. A simple experience can connect people from different cultural backgrounds and open up topics for exchange and sharing. “Together, we embrace inclusion and diversity.”
- Multicultural Parent-Child Workshop
Social enterprise WEDO GLOBAL has collaborated with Hong Kong Public Libraries for two consecutive years to organize a series of multicultural workshops, allowing both Chinese and Non-Chinese parents and children to participate together. The workshops aim to enrich participants' cultural experience, deepen their understanding of diverse values and characteristics, and learn to appreciate and respect people from various cultural backgrounds. Additionally, the workshops provide valuable opportunities for participants to learn, interact and create good memories together, enhancing cultural knowledge and at the same time strengthening the parent-child relationship. “It is truly wonderful to have the opportunity to explore different cultures with our children. With students from Pakistan, Nepal, Korea and other diverse ethnic groups in both of my children’s schools, they can apply the knowledge gained from these workshops when they return to school.” —— Parent participant. Multicultural Parent-Child workshop | Picture book reading 'Tale of Two Fadans' 'Meow Meow is Missing!' There were two sessions of picture book reading in the workshop series. In the first session, the picture book 'Tale of Two Fadans' was read, telling the story of two characters from different ethnicities who are learning Chinese opera. Our Cultural Ambassadors acted as the characters in the story, bringing it to life through interactive elements of picture book and drama. The session emphasized that individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds may face challenges, teaching children the importance of supporting their friends, persevering through difficulties, and finding ways to overcome obstacles. In the second session, the picture book 'Meow Meow is Missing!' was read, with Yau Ma Tei as the story background. With the guidance of Cultural Ambassadors, parents and children were able to explore the multicultural Yau Ma Tei community, meeting neighbors from different cultural backgrounds to promote the message of inclusion. The story incorporated interactive games and parent-child discussion sessions, encouraging children to express themselves and develop their observation skills. The participants were highly engaged, and the children had the opportunity to make new friends while enjoying the story and learning together. Multicultural Parent-Child workshop | Arabic Words and Art In the Arabic Words and Art workshop, both parents and children showed great interest in learning this seemingly unrelated language but in fact closely related to our lives. The workshops provided an opportunity to participants to explore different greetings in Arabic, to write Arabic words and design characteristic patterns under the guidance of cultural ambassadors. These activities fostered children’s interest in multiculturalism, and enriched their cultural knowledge and cultural intelligence. As a community cultural center, Hong Kong Public Libraries provides a place for learning and interaction for readers of all ages. This collaboration between WEDO GLOBAL and Hong Kong Public Libraries not only facilitates cross-cultural communication and understanding but also conveys the message of inclusion to a broader range of stakeholders in society, aiming to promote a more inclusive and diverse society. #WEDOGLOBAL #香港公共圖書館 #HongKongPublicLibraries #Multicultural #Culture #Diversity #Inclusion #SocialInclusion #EthnicMinority #CulturalWorkshop #Children #ChildrenEducation #Parentchild #ParentChildEducation #ParentChildRelationship #CulturalEducation #CulturalWorkshop #PictureBookReading #MeowMeowIsMissing
