Real-life experiences play a powerful role in shaping young people’s growth and self-discovery. In partnership with Teach For Hong Kong, WEDO GLOBAL provided training to Form 3 students from Delia Memorial School (Glee Path), equipping them with storytelling and facilitation skills. With the guidance of our Cultural Ambassadors, the students conducted Mei Foo Multicultural Tours aimed at promoting multicultural understanding, strengthening community connections, and building their confidence and engagement. As the training partner, WEDO GLOBAL designed and facilitated two interactive workshops. The first workshop focused on building students’ storytelling skills, guiding students to craft engaging narratives, connecting personal and community stories, and presenting with confidence. Through a series of interactive activities, students practised storytelling and received feedback to enhance their delivery. “I found talking about our own culture items the most impressive, I've learned new techniques of presenting and building my confidence.” Student The second workshop focused on cultivating students' activity facilitation skills, equipping them with practical techniques to increase participant engagement and to design meaningful learning experiences for diverse participants. Working in groups, they practised guiding different segments of the tour, strengthening their collaboration, communication, and facilitation skills. “The workshop provided us with engaging games, which gave me ideas on how to respond during tours.” — Student The training programme culminated in the Mei Foo multicultural guided tour, which provided students with a valuable hands-on opportunity to share their stories with participants from HSBC and members of the local community. It was inspiring to see the students step into leadership roles, guiding the tour, sharing stories, and interacting with participants with growing confidence and ownership. Their development was evident not only in their presentation and facilitation skills, but also in their strengthened sense of identity and connection to the community. Following the tour, participants expressed their appreciation, describing the experience as inspiring and praising the students’ confidence and performance. “The history of Mei Foo is fascinating. Learning that it used to be a beach and how its name was created was particularly memorable. We are delighted to organize a Rangoli Coaster Workshop for staff at the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), creating a meaningful space for cultural exploration, wellbeing, and team connection. The workshop began with an introduction to the history and meaning of Rangoli—an art form that welcomes guests and celebrates festivals across South Asia—allowing participants to learn more about diverse cultures around the world. Our Cultural Ambassador shared how Rangoli is created, and how these traditions are kept alive in both daily life and festive celebrations. “The introduction to the cultural origins and the creating process was the most memorable part. The workshop helped me better understand the culture, try new things, and become more aware of multiculturalism.” Guided by our Cultural Ambassadors, participants created their own rangoli coaster, working at their own pace in a quiet, music-filled room. Participants described the experience as peaceful and healing, appreciating the chance to slow down, de-stress, and express themselves. “There are so many different cultures in this world, and everyone is blending together to form one big family, getting to know one another and using different activities to become closer. Our team and Cultural Ambassadors come together regularly to learn and enhance ourselves together. In the recent training session, we included self-discovery, storytelling, and cultural exchange, further strengthening our role as a bridge connecting diverse communities in Hong Kong. The session began with visual images, inviting Ambassadors to pause, reflect on themselves, and share recent experiences. This process fostered self-understanding, active listening, and empathy, while also enhancing their communication and expression skills within a supportive environment. We are grateful to have Professor Kenneth from Hong Kong Baptist University joining us and sharing his international training experience and insights. He shared how to curate training programs for people from diverse cultural backgrounds, as well as his personal experiences navigating cultural differences, biases, and stereotypes. His sharing inspired Cultural Ambassadors to exchange stories and ideas, and to explore ways of creating inclusive spaces where diverse voices can be heard. This Cultural Ambassador gathering and training echoed WEDO GLOBAL’s mission to promote multicultural education and empower ethnically diverse youth as leaders and role models. WEDO GLOBAL recently organized a Tsim Sha Tsui Community Tour for a group of enthusiastic Form 5 students from The Chinese Foundation Secondary School, where they had the chance to step out of the classroom to explore the daily life and cultural experiences of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. Guided by WEDO GLOBAL’s Cultural Ambassadors, the students visited Chungking Mansions, where they explored cultural shops, tasted South Asian snacks and drinks, and listened to the stories of local shop owners. Before the visit, many students reflected that they were afraid of entering Chungking Mansions as they had negative impressions, but the experience helped them break stereotypes and discover the friendliness and warmth of the people they met, encouraging them to approach new communities with curiosity, respect, and openness. “The tour was rich and informative, allowing students to learn many interesting facts about religious and cultural practices.” Teacher “There were many hands-on experiences in Chungking Mansions, which helped students to break through many of their stereotypes.” Teacher They also learned simple greetings in several languages, using them to interact with community members during interviews and conversations. We were delighted to organise an Arabic Calligraphy Workshop for students from Our Lady’s College – an engaging experience that offered them a hands-on opportunity to experience Arabic calligraphy, spark creativity, and build cross‑cultural connections. The session introduced students to the basics and history of Arabic calligraphy—an art form that beautifully blends language and visual expression. Guided by our Cultural Ambassador, participants learned how to write and pronounce simple Arabic words. For many students, this was their first time writing and creating art work in Arabic, making the session both eye‑opening and inspiring. “It makes me feel relaxed and happy learning a new culture and experiencing Arabic writing” Building on their practice, students created their own artwork using the words they had learned. From carefully shaped letters to personalised designs, each piece reflected the student’s focus, creativity, and appreciation of diverse cultures. The atmosphere was lively yet reflective, students created their own artwork. Some students even gifted the artworks to our Cultural Ambassadors as a way to show their gratitude, turning the session into a two‑way exchange of respect and appreciation. It was our pleasure to welcome F3 students from Rhenish Church Pang Hok Ko Memorial College on a Wan Chai Community Tour, where they visited the Sikh Temple and explored more about Hong Kong’s rich multicultural community. The tour gave students a valuable chance to step out of the classroom and experience a culture that may have been new to many of them. Guided by our Cultural Ambassadors, the students learned about the history, beliefs, and traditions of Sikh culture. Through conversation and sharing, they discovered the importance of values such as equality, service, and acceptance. What made the experience especially meaningful was the way these ideas came to life through direct engagement, helping students see how culture is not just something to study, but something to experience and appreciate. “Ethnic minorities are human too, we should not think they are different.” Student One of the highlights of the tour was the chance to experience authentic Indian vegetarian food together in the community kitchen. Students found it amazing sitting on the floor to eat while also learning about the spirit of generosity and selfless service that makes Langar such a meaningful practice. “The most memorable part was eating Indian Cuisine, because it was my first time trying Indian cuisine. WEDO GLOBAL organized the “Meow Meow Is Missing!” Multicultural Storytelling Workshop and Arabic Calligraphy Workshop for students and parents of Wong Tai Sin Government Primary School. The workshop aimed to promote building a friendly and inclusive community while enhancing cultural awareness through multicultural education. The activities included an interactive storytelling session with lively role-playing, guiding participants to explore multicultural concepts in a relaxed and enjoyable way. In addition, a parent-child Arabic calligraphy activity was arranged, allowing participants to learn about Arab culture in a fun and engaging manner. The story began with our Cultural Ambassador acting as the character "Little Ching", leading participants on an interesting cultural tour. Through this interactive story, Little Ching guided the students through Yau Ma Tei, exploring topics of personal growth and multiculturalism of Hong Kong. Through her story, students not only discovered the rich cultural diversity within the community, but also gained a deeper understanding of friendship and inclusion in a multicultural society. "I really love the story of Meow Meow because it was so lively and fun to listen to!" Student "The storytelling was vivid and engaging. The Q&A interaction really helped to increase the children’s critical thinking and creativity." Parent Following the storytelling workshop, students were introduced to different languages and cultures. Building on this, we arranged an Arabic calligraphy workshop, inviting parents to take part in this learning experience. Our Cultural Ambassador began by introducing the Arabic language and its cultural background. The workshop combined art with creativity, allowing participants to design unique bookmarks featuring Arabic words. By moving from "observation" to "experience," students learned to appreciate differences and discover beauty in new forms. It was inspiring to see students personalize their bookmarks with their own interests—some added cartoons, princess, castles, while one of the students even decorated his bookmark with different types of insects. "My favorite part was making the bookmark because it was so fun to do it myself!" Student "I was interested in learning Arabic calligraphy; it’s wonderful to learn a completely different language and culture from my own." We were delighted to organise a meaningful Central tour for the Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassadors from the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), with the aim of enhancing the participants' understanding of Hong Kong’s ethnically diverse communities and deepening their understanding of diversity and inclusion. This journey invited participants to rediscover Central—not only as a bustling business hub, but also as a place where different cultures, histories, and communities have come together over time. Guided by our Cultural Ambassadors, participants began their journey at Tai Kwun, where they learned about Hong Kong’s ethnically diverse communities and witnessed the early presence and development of ethnic minority communities in the city. To make the experience more engaging, participants joined a mission-based activity that encouraged teamwork, observation, and discovery of multicultural stories in Tai Kwun, inspiring participants to learn more about diversity with curiosity and openness. “It was an excellent arrangement, visiting various places within Central makes it fun and comfortable.” “The group activity was interactive. It was fun to go to different places with other Youth Ambassadors.” In order to deepen participants’ understanding of diverse religious traditions, they visited the Jamia Mosque and Man Mo Temple—the oldest mosque and one of the most iconic temples in Hong Kong. A Muslim participant demonstrated ablution and prayer at the mosque, while a Chinese student introduced common practices at the temple to first-time participants. This cross-cultural exchange created an interactive co-learning environment, where participants shared knowledge and experiences across cultures. “The tour inspired me to learn more about the Muslim community and the history of Central and Sheung Wan district.” “This tour inspired me to respect and appreciate every culture no matter where you are from, everyone has a story behind it and it opens our perspectives just by listening to theirs.” Through the tour, participants gained a deeper appreciation of how diverse communities have shaped Hong Kong. To foster an inclusive campus and strengthen cross-cultural understanding, WEDO GLOBAL organized a Cultural Sensitivity Training and Henna Workshop for staff members at Tung Wah College. The session provided a meaningful opportunity for participants to learn about the diverse cultures represented in Hong Kong, reflect on workplace inclusion, and enjoy a creative, hands-on experience with henna art. The training featured interactive discussions on cultural awareness, unconscious bias, and effective cross-cultural communication. Through real-life examples and group sharing, participants explored practical ways to create a more open and respectful environment when supporting students from different cultural backgrounds. Many shared that they appreciated having a safe space to ask questions and express curiosity during the training. “I have learnt a lot of useful information that inspires me to understand the culture of different ethnicities” shared by one of the participants. In the Henna Workshop, participants discovered the rich cultural significance behind traditional South Asian art forms. Guided by our Cultural Ambassadors, they experiment with henna application—practising basic techniques before creating their own designs. The relaxed and creative atmosphere encouraged meaningful conversations and stronger bonds among colleagues. “I really enjoyed practising henna designs. It helped me understand their perspectives and why cultural practices are so important to them,” another participant shared. In 2025, global travel rebounded strongly, with Hong Kong International Airport handling 61 million passenger journeys – a clear sign that Hong Kong’s connection with the world continues to thrive. WEDO GLOBAL is honored to partner with Airport Authority Hong Kong to organize the Cultural Sensitivity Training for two consecutive years, equipping frontline teams with deeper cultural awareness and practical communication skills. Our goal is to empower participants to engage with empathy and understanding in one of the world’s most dynamic, multicultural travel hubs. Through interactive learning and reflective discussions, participants explored how personal assumptions and cultural perceptions shape everyday decisions. Guided by WEDO GLOBAL Cultural Ambassadors, they reviewed real-life service cases, practiced empathy-based communication, and co-created culturally considerate response strategies to enhance the passenger experience. “ I am impressed by the sharing of different cultures and communication methods during the training session. WEDO GLOBAL recently hosted the “MeowMeow Is Missing!”  Multicultural Storytelling Workshop for students from Maryknoll Convent School (Primary Section). Through interactive storytelling and lively role-play, the session introduced students to the multicultural community of Yau Ma Tei in a fun and engaging way. The story followed Little Ching as she explored Yau Ma Tei with her mother. Along the way, she met new friends and discovered the rich cultural diversity of the neighbourhood. Through Little Ching’s journey, students learned the value of community support and the importance of friendship in a diverse society. “Very clear content and the story is engaging. WEDO GLOBAL had the pleasure of organizing a cultural workshop during the closing ceremony for the esteemed guests and alumni of the C-for-Chinese@JC project by the Education University of Hong Kong. The workshop offered a hands-on cultural experience where participants explored a modern twist on the traditional Indian art form — creating beautiful Rangoli decorations made from colourful powders, symbolizing joy and blessings. Guided by WEDO GLOBAL’s Cultural Ambassadors, participants from diverse cultural backgrounds learned about the cultural significance of Rangoli. Many enjoyed their first experience of creating Rangoli patterns, blending colours while sharing stories and laughter with peers. “The part I enjoyed most was making different designs and learning the meaning behind Rangoli. It was engaging, and I gained insights into Indian culture,” A participant shared. “I am impressed by the Rangoli-making process. I had never tried it before, and it was a wonderful experience,” shared another participant. Through this meaningful cultural experience, participants gained a deeper appreciation of art as a medium for cultural understanding — an important lesson for future educators who will nurture Hong Kong’s next generation.
