WEDO GLOBAL is pleased to organize South Asian Game Workshop for Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Wong Yee Jar Jat Memorial Primary School. This workshop was guided by ethnically diverse Cultural Ambassadors, allowing participants to learn about different cultures and engage in culturally themed activities with our Cultural Ambassadors. In the workshop, students learnt through entertainment, enhancing their understanding of multi-culture, including knowledge of food, clothing, language, and cultural festivals. We hope to stimulate students' thinking and curiosity through games, encouraging them to observe their surrounding community more closely,  having a deeper understanding and appreciate the uniqueness of different cultures. Additionally, Cultural Ambassadors shared their personal growth experiences and the challenges they faced, allowing participants to gain a better understanding of the real life of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong, cultivating empathy and encouraging students to care more for people around them. The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development celebrates not only the richness of the world’s cultures, but also the essential role of intercultural dialogue for achieving peace and sustainable development. Held every year on 21 May, it is a reminder for every one of us that intercultural dialogues are important for building an inclusive and sustainable world to live in. We were glad to celebrate this meaningful World Day with the staff from WSP, through the colorful Rangoli Workshop. During the workshop, participants got to learn about the South Asian folk art Rangoli, which is commonly seen in India. Under the guidance of Cultural Ambassador, participants created their own Rangoli artwork, showcasing their creativity and appreciation for diverse cultures. While creating Rangoli, the atmosphere was filled with laughter, discussion and creativity. It was heartwarming to see colleagues take this moment to relax and share ideas about their Rangoli creations. This experience not only fostered artistic expression but also strengthened the bonds within our community, celebrating cultural diversity. “I enjoyed using different colors to fill the patterns. We are delighted to organize a Volunteer and Cultural Experience for the volunteering leads from Jardine Matheson. Through interactive discussions and engaging activities, participants could deepen their cultural understanding and foster their empathy. Stories Behind the Ethnically Diverse Community Guided by WEDO GLOBAL Cultural Ambassadors, participants explored the Sikh Temple in Hong Kong, gaining insights into its culture and traditions. The Ambassadors shared their personal stories and the challenges faced growing up, along with the history and contributions of Sikhs in the region in Hong Kong. This experience has enhanced participants’ appreciation for the ethnically diverse community and nurtured empathy. “Being in the temple and meeting different people was enjoyable; everyone was so welcoming and friendly.” “I enjoyed learning about the history of Sikh culture and its relationship with Hong Kong. There is very little media coverage, and the general community needs to know more.” Volunteering in the Community Kitchen Participants had the opportunity to visit a community kitchen run by volunteers, gaining insights into its purpose and operations. They assisted with ingredient preparation and cleaning, collaborating with fellow volunteers who manage the kitchen. This unique experience not only deepened their understanding but also empowered them to engage with members from the ethnically diverse community. “I found volunteering the most impressive; I was able to talk and interact with other volunteers.” We are thrilled to arrange cultural experiences that can provide participants with valuable insights into Hong Kong's cultural diversity. We were glad to host an interactive training workshop for the “Be a Change-maker” (BACM) 2025 program participants, focusing on Nepalese culture to prepare them for the upcoming Nepal Exposure Trip. BACM is the flagship educational program of Plan International Hong Kong. Since its inception in 2017, the program has empowered nearly 100 young change-makers, equipping them with knowledge, skills, and international exposure through transformative visits to the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Thailand. Participants gain invaluable insights into various community issues, their root causes, and the recent strides made toward positive change. During this enriching session, our Nepalese Cultural Ambassadors introduced the youth participants to the diverse and vibrant culture of Nepal. Attendees learned about the country's geography, greetings, history, traditions, and festivals, which capture the essence of this remarkable nation, as well as its connections to Hong Kong. By equipping them with essential knowledge and insights, we believe this will enhance their exposure experience in Nepal, enabling participants to engage in meaningful interactions with the locals. WEDO GLOBAL recently organized engaging community tours for Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassadors from various tertiary education institutes in Hong Kong , providing them with the opportunity to explore the vibrant and diverse cultures and religions in Wan Chai. The community tour highlights the historical heritage and cultural landmarks, allowing participants to connect with community members from diverse cultural backgrounds and enhance their awareness and knowledge of diverse cultures, religions and communities. "This tour makes me reflect on the Hong Kong identity, as well as the history and significance of multiculturalism in Hong Kong." The community tour was designed to offer an interactive and immersive learning experience. Participants not only visited the cultural landmarks, each offering a unique glimpse into the diverse cultures, but also connected personally with the diverse narratives that Wan Chai offers. Besides, the participants had the opportunity to explore the community in groups, engaging in missions that allow them to explore the Wan Chai community with our Cultural Ambassadors. It enabled them to delve into various cultures, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of diversity and inclusion. "It was nice to acknowledge the beauty of various cultures and regions, and how they come together to build a supportive community for everyone to live in and be respected at." "I have never entered such a temple and I felt that this experience brought us to a completely new side of Hong Kong. I learned so much more about a new culture that had never entered our attention." Many participants shared their thoughts and feelings during the discussions, creating a rich tapestry of experiences. WEDO GLOBAL is glad to have received the Best Collaboration of Social Enterprise Award at the TECM 2024 Award Ceremony and Business Forum, organized by Fullness Social Enterprises Society, alongside social enterprise partners including DECT Production, Dignity Kitchen Hong Kong, Joyous Kitchen, Mindful Sparks, and Fair Circle. Through this collaborative effort, we successfully organized a housewarming celebration event for HKBN, attended by over 500 enthusiastic staff members. In addition to managing the overall project and serving as the event Emcees, we partnered with our social enterprise collaborators to curate a delightful experience. According to the results of the 2021 Population Census, there was over 36% increase in the population of ethnically diverse youths aged 15-24 from 2011 to 2021. The growth highlights our society has a vibrant group of diverse young talents, who are an important driving force for future development. WEDO GLOBAL is excited to be the Training Partner of Diversity Hub, which is organized by Christian Action. Their bespoke Training Program “Voices of Tomorrow”​ offers a series of training sessions aimed to nurture and empower youths of diverse backgrounds. The Program had 16 trainees from diverse backgrounds. Our team has curated the training content to enhance the personal growth and resilience of trainees, while also assisting them in developing professional skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. This will allow them to better equip themselves and better prepare for future job opportunities. Enhance Confidence and Cultural Understanding The training activities were designed to facilitate trainees to share personal stories and cultural insights in a supportive environment. It was heartwarming to see how they embraced each other's backgrounds and took pride in their cultures. As a result, trainees not only enhanced their confidence and presentation skills but also fostered greater cultural awareness and understanding among their peers. “Hearing personal stories from people with different backgrounds made me feel more connected and empathetic toward their experiences.” Trainee  Improved Teamwork and Social Network  Throughout the training, trainees engaged in discussions on a variety of topics while also sharing their personal challenges and experiences. This collaborative environment encouraged them to share both insights and obstacles they faced in their daily lives, allowing trainees to practice active listening within the group. They often shared constructive feedback and encouragement for their peers after listening, this mutual support not only helped them build valuable connections but also strengthened their resilience.  “I'm more aware of the challenges that certain individuals face, and I've been introduced to so many diverse individuals from different backgrounds so it definitely broadened my horizons.” Trainee "In the presentations, everyone has the courage to express their own culture, giving me a deeper understanding of different cultures. We are honored to organize a Diversity and Inclusion Training Workshop for the management and leaders at  PURE Group . With staff representing over 30 nationalities, the Pure Group embodies a rich tapestry of cultural backgrounds. The key objectives of this workshop are to enhance cultural awareness and sensitivity among the management team, as well as to develop effective cross-cultural communication skills to foster a more inclusive workplace culture. During the workshop, we discussed the concepts of stereotypes and biases, emphasizing the importance of recognizing unconscious bias in decision-making. Participants shared practical strategies for addressing these biases and promoting fairness in their decision-making processes. Embracing diversity also fosters stronger connections among colleagues and creates a supportive and inclusive environment. “The training workshop really made me think about how to communicate with people from different cultures and understand their perspectives.” In addition, our Cultural Ambassadors facilitated discussions on creating a more inclusive work environment. In 2024, Hong Kong welcomed approximately 45 million visitors, with particularly strong contributions from Southeast Asian markets, notably Indonesia, the Philippines, and India. As the number of travellers from diverse cultural backgrounds continues to rise, effective cross-cultural communication becomes essential, especially in dynamic environments like airports where different populations intersect. It's our honour to organize four sessions of Cultural Sensitivity Training for Airport Authority Hong Kong staff, particularly those in customer-facing roles. This training aimed to enhance their cultural awareness and improve cross-cultural communication when interacting with travellers. Each session began with interactive games aimed at breaking the ice and challenging stereotypes or biases participants might have in their daily lives. This was followed by story sharing from our Cultural Ambassadors and group activities. These engaging activities fostered open dialogue, encouraging participants to share their experiences and exchange in groups, creating a strong foundation for case sharing and brainstorming best practices during the training. Participants shared various cases and experiences they encountered while interacting with tourists from diverse cultural backgrounds. A few participants shared that they had encountered tourists asking them for directions. After the explanation by our Cultural Ambassador, participants got to understand the correct direction of prayer for muslim travellers. With the enhanced knowledge, they can better answer the enquiries of travellers according to their needs.  “I found case sharing the most impressive, everyone sharing their experiences with travellers from diverse cultures.” Through this training, participants gained essential cross-cultural communication skills. When responding to inquiries from travellers, it is important to think ahead and consider whether their questions pertain to cultural or religious aspects. With enhanced cultural awareness and knowledge, travelers can receive more comprehensive and satisfactory service. WEDO GLOBAL organized a multicultural community exploration in Wan Chai for students and teachers from Hong Kong and Kowloon Kaifong Women's Association Sun Fong Chung College. Through interactive learning experiences and sharing by Cultural Ambassadors, participants learned about the history, culture, and customs of Sikhism, as well as the bonding between Sikhs and Hong Kong. In addition to expanding their cultural knowledge and tasting traditional Indian vegetarian cuisine, participants had the opportunity to participate in volunteer work, giving them first-hand experience of the meaning and importance of serving the community. Turban Experience and Martial Arts Performance Our Cultural Ambassador demonstrated how to tie a traditional Sikh turban and explained its cultural significance. Besides, our Sikh Cultural Ambassadors presented an impressive martial arts performance for the participants, illustrating the importance of martial arts in Sikh culture. Students not only enjoyed the performance but also had the chance to try out some basic martial arts moves themselves. “The part that I enjoyed the most was martial arts because I found their performances spectacular, it was great to have the chance to experience it.” Volunteer Service Experience Volunteers typically start preparing food ingredients early at dawn at the Sikh Temple. During this service learning experience, students assisted with the daily tasks of volunteers in the kitchen under the guidance of Cultural Ambassadors,  including preparing ingredients, peeling onion skins, and washing dishes. This allowed them to understand and appreciate the spirit of service and learn to be grateful for the contributions of others. “This activity made me reflect on how inclusive Hong Kong is towards diverse cultures. We need to keep an open mind, to accept and respect ethnic minorities.” Through this learning experience, students gained a deeper understanding of the daily lives of Sikhs, which sparked their interest and understanding of different cultures, making them more willing to explore diverse cultures in Hong Kong and engage with people from different cultural backgrounds in the community. Furthermore, through their participation in volunteer service, students not only practiced the spirit of service but also recognized the importance of helping others. We are honoured to host a community tour in Yuen Long for a group of local and international students from the City University of Hong Kong. Yuen Long is a vibrant area with a rich history and is home to community members from various cultural backgrounds. This enriching experience offered participants a unique opportunity to gain new perspectives on the local community and connect with community members from diverse cultures through interviews. Explore Yuen Long: a blend of the old and new For many students, this was their first visit to Yuen Long, making the journey a refreshing experience for them. Under the lead of Cultural Ambassadors, participants explored the transition from modern shopping malls to traditional neighbourhoods. They witnessed the changes over time in this district and learned more about Yuen Long's history. Along the way, the Cultural Ambassadors also had the opportunity to introduce the Light Rail, a primary mode of transportation in the northwest New Territories. Engaging with ethnically diverse shopkeepers Participants were assigned different missions as they explored the Yuen Long community  in groups. Throughout the missions, they had the opportunity to meet various community members and conduct interviews with shopkeepers to gain deeper insights into their lives in Hong Kong. The students showed genuine curiosity and actively asked questions, uncovering the reasons why they came to live in Hong Kong and the challenges they faced. Although some shared similar ethnic backgrounds, each community member had their own unique experiences and stories, enriching the students' understanding of South Asian cultures and the characteristics of this community. "The part that impressed me the most is the interview, because we get the chance to know more information about South Asian culture." "Before the tour, I thought everyone came to work in Hong Kong. But then I realized there are a lot of reasons and history behind Hong Kong minorities living there." Sharing session: tasting snacks and exchange of insights After their explorations, participants collected snacks from various shops and had the opportunity to taste South Asian and Chinese snacks. During this time, they shared their experiences and memorable stories from the tour, as well as their insights and reflections throughout the entire journey, summarizing their learning experience. "I like the part where we were offered to try their cultural food. Good to know that these people are very nice and helpful."
